On October 22, Calvin Noble of Granby, Vermont was critically injured in a hunting accident. Calvin was in critical condition for the first four weeks of being in ICU.
The extent of Calvin’s injuries includes a fractured right hip, the loss of his bladder and the amputation of his entire right leg. Calvin is now in serious condition and it is expected that he will remain in ICU for a few more weeks before being transferred to another section of the hospital. His recovery time in rehab is expected to take many months.
Calvin has undergone six major operations and nearly a dozen trips to the OR for minor operations. During this time he has received over 125 units of blood products.
The outpouring of love, support and prayers for our family has been overwhelming and heartwarming. We are continuously being asked what people can do to help. We are asking those who able and wiling to give the gift of life. Giving blood doesn’t cost a cent or take a lot of time, but it does save lives. Calvin was a blood donor because he knew the importance of giving blood. Take it from our family; one never knows when tragedy can strike. A successful blood drive was held on December 3, 2008 to help support Calvin and to remember how precious life is. The blood donated did not necessarily go directly to him, but helped replenish what he has needed.
Red Cross blood donors help patients just like Calvin in cities and towns throughout New England and across the United States. Please….give blood.
